With the revival of the 1970's satchels made popular again by Julie Deane, founder of The Cambridge Satchel Company , I have been asked by many customers to put a Gerty spin on it.
The Satchel is proving very popular even in the celebrity world with everyone from Zooey Deschanel and Alexa Chung to Daniel Radcliffe and Russell Kane.
The object of my business 'Gertrude Anna' is to provide my customers with an oportunity to have something made especially for them. It all started when I began to collect original 1980's fabrics from Star Wars to Carebears a few years back. I quickly realised that nostalgia was an amazing thing and combining handmade items with those childhood memories was a very exciting opportunity.
With this in mind the 'Gerty' Satchel came about when a customer asked to have a bag made that showcased original 'Wuzzles' fabric .. this was quickly followed by requests for Rainbow Brite, E.T , Miss Piggy, Wonderwoman satchels. It most certainly became apparant the I was on to something good :)
Best of all though was the reaction that each of those customers had when they recieved their handmade bags. I tell you there is never anything more nerve wrecking as a designer when you hand over an item that has been commissioned . What if they hate it , what if it falls apart, what if it gets lost in the post hehe.. A heart attack each time.
Of course the 'gerty ' satchel doesn't stay put at only using retro fabrics as it's inspiration , As with all of my gertrude anna designs , I often leave nostalgia aside and instead use simple and beautiful fabrics in combination . So really there is something there for everyone and most definatly the opportunity to tell me what YOU WANT .. It's is all individually handmade afterall .
So if you are ever after a cool new bag be it a satchel , clutch , or even a back pack just drop me a line..I'm very nice hehe xx Timmy

BAT FOR LASHES
I'm always thinking of ways to brighten up my flat ... I have also neglected putting paint to canvas in a lonngggg time. So I thought I would give myself a project and turn any doodles that I have made over the years into some fun paintings . Now I'm the first to admit that I'm not the most talented if painters hehe.. but I love it , especially with acrylic paints as it dries so quickly and I am very impatient. :)
Here is a little collection of images of my latest painting. A kind of promo poster style for one of my favourite bands 'Bat For Lashes' :)
what do yas think? be kind lol

MY LOVELY PLANTS :)
Beyond sewing I love love love plants and plant pots. Track the growth of my tomato plants and chilli peppers with my summer time window ledge piccys. :)
Recyled food tins make great stylish plant pots,
Even open up a top drawer and use it as a space saving surface. x
